6 Types of Bloggers

A brief history of Blogging

Before we tap into what types of bloggers you get, we must first take a look at the origin of Blogging. Do you know where the word blogger comes from? In 1997 Jon Barger coined the phrase Web Log, which was later abbreviated to just ‘blog’ therefore Blogging by definition is “a person who regularly writes material for a blog.” So blogging is inherently writing! Bloggers are writers!

What is an influencer?

I know we have steered away from the writing and many bloggers have become influencers because their job has become mostly promoting products. But now and then you find a blogger who has a story to tell rather than just pushes products.

There is much debate over what an influencer is. Some say it’s any person who has a large social media following but lately it seems like because of the growing number of fake followers companies see influencers as celebrities rather than just any person with a large social media account.

Bloggers and other creative content producers can become genuine influencers because they have built a following who trusts them. They are both passionate about the brands they collaborate with and they have a story to tell! Their audience listens to what they have to say more than they would an advert.

People do not buy goods and services. They buy relations, stories and magic.”

6 Types of Bloggers

So a little bit of tongue in cheek, I have divided into 6 different types of bloggers. We all can identify a little bit with one of them.

Gung HO Blogger

Bloggers come in all shapes and sizes. You get the serious GUNG HO Blogger. This type of blogger takes Blogging very seriously! Blogging is life! They are overzealous. These are Bloggers who do it all! Graphics, Vlogging, downloadable resources, subscriptions, strategies, plans etc! You name it, they do it!

Guru Blogger

GURU bloggers are SEO bloggers. They are the ones who create content for your websites to rank them higher on google. Essentially they are gurus at understanding algorithms and all things SEO.

Passion Blogger

PASSION bloggers, are the writers who have a story to tell. They write from experience or emotion. They want to empower you with words and change the world! They will generally be your motivational type of bloggers. Faith writers, Relationship or life issues. They tend to write regularly but in contrast, can also have dormant periods. They are not in it to make any money.

Pop up Blogger

Then you get the POP-UP blogger, They are the ones who sporadically blog when they feel the urge. The Pop Up Bloggers are not consistent. They tend to just blog for fun.

One hit wonder Blogger

You also get the ONE HIT WONDER blogger, who starts a blog, posts one blog and completely forgets about it.

MicroBlogger

Then you get the MICRO blogger, those who write consistently on Instagram or Twitter, wait are people even still using Twitter? Collis Taéed uses Twitter and he is recorded as the top-earning blogger currently, so that says something! If you are starting Instagram is a great platform to microblog without having your website.

Finally, If you have been blogging since its origin in 1997 or if you have just started then you are a blogger and therefore a writer! We are all at different stages in our blogging. We are all unique. We all have a story to share! According to Micheal Conniff “Blogs are whatever we make them. Defining ‘Blog’ is a fool’s errand.”
