Shirley from Snowflake Creations usually hosts the famous Makaranga Christmas Market but with the Makaranga being closed this year she has organised an epic event at Cotswold Downs Golf Estate this year!. Shirley together with Cotswold have not only helped these small businesses but also widely contributed to the community and the economy!
Walking into the market is like a winter wonderland but yes this summer heat reminds us exactly where we are! There were the most creative and beautiful stalls. You could get personalised Christmas stockings made on the spot! Since the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic, markets have halted and small business has taken a huge knock. Supporting local has not been possible for a long time. My husband lost his job just before COVID-19 Lockdown and that pushed him to follow his passion just like many others this year. He now relies on markets such as these.
Say Hello to some of the Vendors!
So YES, this is my husband Goonga and he makes the most decadent artisanal cakes! You cant say they ‘Delicious’ you have to say they are ‘Goongalicious’! 🙂 He sells per slice at markets but he also takes cake orders. He just needs at least 24 hours notice! You can order on his website www.goongalicious.co.za
We met Chef Rum attending various markets together. My hubby and he became foodie friends rather quickly. He makes deliciously scrumptious falafel wraps. He is all about Conscious Cuisine, his falafels are 100% Vegan. You can find him on Facebook if you want to book him for your event.
Macks Thrift Shack
Ooooh you guys know how much I love thrift shopping! Macks thrift Shack is a thrift shop and consignment store situated in Durban North! Lee-Anne imports pre-loved thrift clothing. I got my Christmas jersey from her at the Market! I love love love it!!!! I’m leaving for the UK on Christmas day for a 1 month Holiday so aptly I shall be wearing it on the plane! 🙂
Orobaa means ‘Women’s Gold’. How beautiful is that? I met the most amazing women Akos, who is so passionate about these all-natural products. She gets the Shea butter made in Ghana and speaking with her briefly I heard a lot about Where she came from and the way of life on the farm there. I am organising to do an interview with her to hear more so watch this space!
Hammam Bath and Body
We met this beautiful couple Saleem and Nazeemah when doing a market at the beginning of the year. We made friends rather quickly as we soon found our mutual love for people. They sell the most gorgeous towels and gowns imported from turkey! They can be found on both Instagram and Facebook and deliver nationwide.
If you think you missed out, not to worry there is another Christmas Market coming up at Park Square Umhlanga 16-20 December!!! Again Shirley has got so much in store for you! A Fun Photo Station and an Epic Movie Night on the 18th at 7 pm
