There are many thrift shops Durban and its surrounds have to offer. I have an online thrift shop on Instagram called Unfold Thrift where I occasionally sell a few things. Here are my favourite 10 places I like to visit…
Queensburgh Cheshire Homes
Open every Tuesday and Friday from 9 am -12 pm. On the last Saturday of the month, they are also open. They have an extensive second-hand book shop where I secured a few Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan to complete my set! There is a secondhand clothing section and what I like to call a Nik Nak section with some household items. They have a little tea garden serving homemade cakes and tea or coffee.

Highway Hospice
Highway Hospice is Situated off Underwood Road, next to Hatton’s Kwikspar, the Highway hospice is a treasure cove of second-hand goods. Hospice is near to where I live so I pop in there quite frequently looking for new reads and walk out with a few tops and possible espresso cups for Hubby’s collection. Ngwena Coffee Shop is inside the Hospice Shop and serves delicious toasted sarmies with coleslaw salad.

The Social Cause
The Social Cause supports a few charities and Barbara has done amazing work raising funds for them! Situated in Pinetown, not too far from Knowles, this thrift shop holds a variety of clothing and bric-a-brac. You are welcome to drop off any donations at the shop as well.

St Giles Thrift Shop Durban
If you frequent the Durban Beaches, you can find St Giles as you drive out of the Ushaka Parking lots. I once found a tweed jacket for 50c that I still wear today. The funds from the charity shop are used towards the running costs of the work centre and gym for the Saint Giles Association for the Disabled

Kloof SPCA
I have been a visitor of The SPCA thrift shop for over 15 years before Marilyn’s Tea Garden moved into the House! We used to picnic there and my kids climbed the trees. Now I’m revealing my age! It is open in the week 9 am -12 pm as well as Saturdays. There is always such a festive vibe going on there! There are a few different shops behind the tea garden! Clothing, Haberdashery, Children’s Toys and Lots of Books!

Maytime Thrift Shop
The SPCA has another small charity shop in kloof next to the Maytime Spar. It has a mix of everything in one shop. I was there last week and picked up some quaint wooden heels. They also had gorgeous antique tea sets that I fell in love with.

Hidden Treasures Westville
I accidentally found Hidden Treasures when stopping at the tea room (I don’t know why I still call it that) in Maryvale Road. I didn’t have too much time to look so I have to go back but it was full of people so the community must be familiar with it. It did have a few nice children’s books and games that I could see.

Granny’s Attic Thrift Shop Durban
For over 20 years I have been stopping in at Granny’s Attic in the middle of town. All proceeds go to Tafta for the Aged. They always have such a variety of goods depending on the donations of people. I have found some Funky 70’s looking blouses there that have lasted me for years and one or two other odds and ends. It is open Mon to Fri 8 am- 3:45 pm

Castaway Love
I recently did an Article for Layed Back Leather and stumbled upon Castaway Love at the back of the shop! I knew Mandy, the owner from years ago and have followed their page on Instagram but I thought they only had a shop in Umhlanga and I just never made it to that side of town. They stock high quality, brand name items at a fraction of the cost. I fell in love with the shop. I took my friend there for a visit just so I could try on some of the items.

Bargain Bin
Let’s talk second-hand furniture for a second. (haha, see what I did there?) Bargain Bin has some antique as well as contemporary items. Beautiful dining room sets in excellent condition and classic wing-back armchairs that have been reupholstered.
