Happy Singles Day 2025

It’s Singles Day, and while the world is busy selling discounts and date-night dreams, I want to talk about something far more meaningful and that is, the strength it takes to choose yourself.

Recently, I came across a blogger writing about marriage being the “foundation of society.” That sounds wonderful in theory, but what happens when that foundation cracks under oppression, lovelessness, or control? When “staying together” comes at the cost of one person’s freedom, confidence, or happiness?

For too long, women have been told to stay, even when staying meant losing themselves. But walking away from something that isn’t kind or fulfilling doesn’t make you a failure, it makes you brave. It takes extraordinary courage to leave behind a life that feels safe on the outside but suffocating on the inside. Especially when you’ve been made to depend entirely on someone else and have to start over from scratch.

No one chooses to blow up their life for fun.
Let’s be honest, staying complacent is far more comfortable.

So if someone walks away, knowing they’ll face judgment, family rejection, and society’s narrow views, maybe we should stop asking why they left and start asking what made them feel they had to.

Let’s normalise leaving.
Let’s normalise healing.
And let’s normalise being single.

Because being single isn’t the breaking down of society , it’s the rebuilding of one rooted in self-worth, equality, and freedom.

And while we’re at it, let’s normalise a woman sitting alone at a bar for a drink , not to meet someone, not to be rescued, but simply because she enjoys her own company.

Tips for Loving and Dating Yourself

Being single doesn’t mean being lonely. It’s an invitation to get to know yourself again, without the noise of other people’s expectations. Here are a few ways to start:

1. Take yourself out.
Dinner, a beach walk, a gallery visit ,go solo and savour it. You’ll be surprised how freeing it feels not to rush or compromise.

2. Write yourself love notes.
Seriously. Leave reminders of what makes you incredible , your resilience, your humour, your spark.

3. Learn your love language.
Whether it’s quality time, acts of service, or words of affirmation, give those things to yourself.

4. Redefine “me-time.”
It’s not selfish to prioritise rest, hobbies, or quiet moments. It’s essential.

5. Celebrate your milestones.
Buy yourself flowers, toast to your growth, or book that weekend away. You don’t need an occasion! You are the occasion.

Here’s to Healthy Love

Here’s to every person choosing peace over pretence, self-respect over settling, and love that begins from within.

So this Singles Day, raise a glass, to healing, to freedom, and to falling deeply in love with the most constant person in your life: you.
