Josette, the Heart Behind the Taylor Swift Tribute Show

With friendship bracelets flying and fans singing along in full album-inspired outfits, the Taylor Swift Tribute Show has landed in South Africa — and it’s already stealing hearts. We caught up with Josette, the incredibly talented performer fronting this high-energy celebration of all things Taylor Swift.

From Christchurch to Centre Stage

Josette hails from Christchurch, New Zealand, where her journey with music began early. “I’ve always loved dance and music,” she shares. “I started playing keys, then moved into guitar and singing, and was always involved in theatre.” Now performing as a full-time musician, Josette was invited to help develop the Taylor Eras tribute show from the ground up — and it’s been a whirlwind ever since.

Why Taylor Swift?

As a Swiftie herself, Josette saw the need for a space where fans could come together and celebrate Taylor’s music, especially in countries like New Zealand and South Africa, where Taylor hasn’t toured. “We just wanted to spread the joy,” she says. “There’s such a strong community of fans here who never got to see her live, so this show is about recreating those special moments.”

The Swiftie Response? Pure Magic.

“The love has been overwhelming,” Josette beams. “Everyone’s dressing up as their favourite album era, exchanging bracelets, and just soaking up the vibe.” She’s quick to clarify: this isn’t an impersonation act. “I’m a Swiftie too — I don’t try to be Taylor, it’s about celebrating her music together.”

Favourite Era to Perform? It Changes!

Each night brings a different energy, depending on the vibe. “If I’m feeling grungy, I love diving into Reputation. But lately, I’ve been loving Fearless — I get to play a lot of guitar, especially with our full band.”

Six Quick Changes, Eight Costumes

When asked about the costume changes, Josette laughs. “There’s no chilling backstage! I’ve got two people helping me fly through six changes — it’s hectic, but so fun.” And although Joburg’s theatre is massive, she’s looking forward to a slightly less frantic pace in Durban.

Durban Debut – And Some Well-Earned Rest

This will be Josette’s first time performing (and visiting!) Durban, and she’s excited. “I think we’ll have a few days to explore. She recently wrapped up work on an ABBA tribute show and has been busy preparing for this tour ever since, with Cape Town next on the list.

What’s On Her Playlist?

Outside of her Taylor zone, Jose is rediscovering her love for country-pop. “Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood, even a bit of Ronan Keating,” she says. “It’s fun going back to that sound I grew up with.”
