Explora Journeys has marked another significant milestone in its ambitious fleet expansion program with the successful completion of sea trials for EXPLORA III in the Mediterranean.

The achievement keeps the luxury cruise ship firmly on schedule for her inaugural Mediterranean sailing on 24 July 2026 and represents an important step forward in the brand’s vision of operating a six-ship fleet by 2028.

As the third vessel to join the Explora Journeys fleet, EXPLORA III strengthens the brand’s growing presence in the luxury ocean travel market while showcasing its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and exceptional guest experiences.

Successful Sea Trials Confirm Operational Readiness

The latest round of technical and nautical testing evaluated EXPLORA III’s operational systems, performance capabilities, and overall seaworthiness. The successful completion of these trials confirms that the vessel is progressing according to schedule ahead of her official launch.

Following the trials, the 72,810-gross-ton ship returned to Fincantieri’s Sestri Ponente shipyard near Genoa, Italy, where final interior installations and finishing touches will be completed before delivery.

The successful outcome of the testing program ensures that EXPLORA III remains on track for her Mediterranean Prelude Journey, which departs on 24 July 2026.

EXPLORA III Becomes the Fleet’s First LNG-Powered Ship

One of the most notable features of EXPLORA III is her advanced LNG-powered propulsion system, making her the first vessel in the Explora Journeys fleet to operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The ship has been designed with the flexibility to utilise renewable fuel alternatives, including bio-LNG and synthetic LNG, supporting the cruise line’s broader sustainability objectives.

This technology represents a significant step in Explora Journeys’ ongoing efforts to reduce emissions and support its goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across maritime operations by 2050.

Explora Journeys Reaches the Halfway Point of Its Six-Ship Vision

With three ships now operating or nearing delivery and three additional vessels in various stages of construction and planning, Explora Journeys has reached the halfway point of its six-ship fleet expansion strategy.

The brand continues to position itself as a leader in ultra-luxury ocean travel, combining elegant ship design, immersive itineraries and a focus on responsible growth.

Anna Nash, President of Explora Journeys, described the successful sea trials as an important achievement for the brand’s long-term vision.

She noted that EXPLORA III reflects the company’s commitment to innovation, exceptional guest experiences and lower-emission technologies, while highlighting the significance of having three ships sailing simultaneously during the 2026 season.

Mediterranean Debut and Official Naming Ceremony

EXPLORA III will begin her inaugural season with the Mediterranean Prelude Journey departing on 24 July 2026.

The ship is scheduled to arrive in Barcelona on 1 August 2026 for her official naming ceremony. Shortly afterwards, she will embark on her seven-night Maiden Journey to Lisbon, launching a Northern European season focused on cultural discovery and scenic exploration.

This maiden programme is designed to showcase the brand’s signature approach to luxury travel, offering guests a slower, more immersive way to experience some of Europe’s most captivating destinations.

Exploring Northern Europe, Greenland and North America

Following her Mediterranean launch, EXPLORA III will spend the remainder of her inaugural season exploring some of the world’s most spectacular regions.

Highlights include voyages through Norway’s dramatic fjords, the rugged landscapes of Iceland and Greenland, and the colourful autumn scenery of New England and Canada’s East Coast.

Each itinerary has been carefully curated to deliver a distinctive luxury travel experience, combining iconic destinations with the elevated service and sophisticated atmosphere that define the Explora Journeys brand.

A New Chapter for Luxury Ocean Travel

The successful completion of sea trials signals that EXPLORA III is entering the final stages before welcoming her first guests.

As the fleet’s first LNG-powered vessel and the third ship in Explora Journeys’ growing portfolio, EXPLORA III represents both a technological advancement and a strategic milestone for the luxury cruise line. With her debut just weeks away, the ship is set to play a key role in shaping the next chapter of premium ocean travel.
