Samsung South Africa, in partnership with Ocule IT, has launched the next phase of its impactful Enterprise Development Bootcamp, a programme aimed at driving economic growth, job creation, and digital empowerment in KwaZulu-Natal. This initiative forms part of Samsung’s R280-million Equity Equivalent Investment Programme (EEIP) and is designed to equip local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the ICT sector with the tools, training, and funding they need to succeed.
This year’s bootcamp includes the expertise of Ocule IT for the first time, bringing in hands-on support and mentorship to participants. With a clear focus on digital innovation, business growth, and funding readiness, the programme is giving tech-driven entrepreneurs the chance to level up their business strategies and secure vital investment.
Enterprise Development for Real Impact
The bootcamp is more than just theory. It’s an intensive, hands-on experience where participants receive training in:
- Business planning and strategy
- Financial management and investment readiness
- Pitching ideas to potential investors
Samsung has made this opportunity available especially to alumni of Ocule IT’s Electronics Technician/Artisan programme, targeting young entrepreneurs from underrepresented communities.
Sanele Gcumisa, Managing Member at Ocule IT, said:
“Our goal is to empower entrepreneurs with the skills and confidence they need to secure funding and scale their businesses. Together with Samsung, we’re building real pathways to economic participation.”
A Structured Path to Success
The programme kicked off with a five-day bootcamp (07–11 July 2025), followed by a four-month incubation period filled with:
- Mentorship from industry experts
- The creation of professional data rooms for investors
- Business development support
- A financial contribution of R500,000 to support growth initiatives
One of the programme’s highlights is the Pitch and Polish event in October 2025, where 9 out of 15 participants will compete for cash prizes. Winners will then enter a 3-month phase of monitoring and mentorship to prepare them for real-world investor meetings.
Aligning with South Africa’s Development Goals
The Samsung EEIP initiative directly supports the goals of South Africa’s National Development Plan (NDP) and Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) frameworks. It aims to:
- Increase access to the digital economy
- Foster innovation and tech entrepreneurship
- Promote inclusive, long-term economic growth
Nicky Beukes, EEIP Project Manager at Samsung South Africa, shared:
“This bootcamp is about more than financial support. It’s about nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit, creating business opportunities, and ensuring lasting community impact.”
Building for the Future
Looking ahead, Samsung and Ocule IT plan to bring additional public-private partners on board, including the KwaZulu-Natal Growth Fund and Sefda, to provide further guidance and opportunities for the bootcamp finalists.
This initiative is not just ticking boxes and it’s changing lives by creating a launchpad for entrepreneurs to contribute meaningfully to the local economy.
“By empowering tech entrepreneurs with the right tools, training, and support, we’re not only building businesses, we’re building a more inclusive and digitally-enabled South Africa,” Beukes concluded.
